My English Learning Process

Saying my firsts English learning classes were wrong it would be a selfish posture against my teacher because starting teaching is the most difficult part (the professor was a beginner), and I know pretty well about that due to my current experience as a teacher. Although the classes were boring and full of technical vocabulary with the idea to get better grades in our I.T specialty, we knew it was only for maintaining us really busy and it brought us a frustrated attitude; but now, at the far end, I realize it was with all my teacher's love. Unveiling this is one of the things have made me to value my ELT Program even though the students are sometimes ungrateful as my high-school partners and I were with our teacher Betty, now I can recognize that my professor was doing her best as I am trying to do with my dear students. After my high school graduation I had to wait one semester for starting studying only because the registration process at UIS, the unique University I could go because my mother’s situation, always start very early and I didn’t know this since this information isn’t normally available in towns so my uncle Luis helped me with the procedure. For that reason with all my Z eal I spent these months doing an English course at Unisangil, our private university in San Gil. There I had a wonderful professor who impulsed me to be the best student and of course! To choose Teaching English Program and not Spanish whose was my first option because I was a smart student in this subject at school, and according to my marvelous professor’s thoughts I would be an excellent student in this program. At my university my English learning process continued because the day to choose my future job I chose ELT Program, English because I could see more possibilities and Teaching Program because it’s the thing that I enjoy the most. At this time, I started to Yearn to be the most successful student in consequence of my previous learning experience where we learnt to say “hello”, “How are you?”, “Nice to meet you”, the Numbers… and things like those, that one conceive in the mind are enough at least at the beginning of this program, haha so naîve because starting to learn has been the most hard-working period in this path of my life because my little knowledge in English added to this University begins with a high level and moreover, I had to start to live with my father and his new family in Piedecuesta that took two or more hours of my day wasted on a bus, those things were really demanding, fortunately it was only for two years. Then I could live near my University and everything became better =). Actually I have been great since this change, my life, my study, my learning process. I know it has taken long time but little by little I’ll reach my goal, become a lovely, responsible and devoted Teacher!!

Hi, Suzy. One thing you've mentioned is really important: we forget that teaching is a difficult labour, and we sometimes criticise a lot. It's nice to know that for you teaching is a labour of love and not only something you must do. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Hi Suzy! It's great that you are so passionate about your major and your job! Your students will definitely learn lots of things from you!

Another thing that I found really interesting in your post is that you do take into account that external factors have a lot to do with our learning process. Thus, it's a must for us as teachers to be aware of this and do our best so our students can learn as much as possible both in and outside the classroom.

Nice story,

Keep it up girl!
